iron warriors thunderhammer/storm shield terminators tutorial
pre paint. chaos terminators with thunderhammer/storm shield. the right arms are the combi-weapon arms with the gun hacked off and a chaos knight shield glued in its place. basing is sand with some larger rocks glued on with white glue.

stage 1. spray the model with matte silver spray paint. i wanna say this particular one is krylon. it comes out ridiculously bright. people will ask you if your plastic models are metal.
stage 2. wash the entire model with badab black, even parts that will not wind up silver in the end. the wash will help paint adhere better to the surface later. even though it is a matte spray, it can be finicky. price you pay for 3 dollar spray i suppose. make sure that nothing pools weirdly on the flat surfaces...its not like you can go back and touch up the silver paint. if i were painting pre-heresy or silver imperial marines (doom eagles, silver skulls, grey knights) i would probably stop here with the metal. but since these guys are naughty chaos guys and have been fighting for milennia, they need a bit of dirtying up.
stage 3. paint the trim. any type of trim on the armor, weapons or shields gets a basecoat of dwarf bronze followed by a coat of shining gold. you could probably go with straight shining gold, but i like how the gold coats over the bronze.
stage 4. devlan mud wash the whole thing.

stage 5. details, details. any skulls/bones/horns get a coat of dheneb stone with a white highlight. yellow tassels are iyanden darksun with a devlan mud wash. any leather (bags, straps, handles of the power weapons) are scorched brown with a calthan brown highlight. wash all this with gryphonne sepia.
stage 6. finishing details. eyes are mordian blue with an ice blue highlight and white highlight, followed by an asurmen blue wash. power weapons are similar. mordian blue basecoat, then from the power source out: white>ice blue>enchanted blue>midnight blue>2 washes of asurmen blue.

stage 6 cont'd. fleshy bits on the shields are tallarn flesh with a rotting flesh highlight followed by an ogryn flesh wash. tongues are mechrite red with a blood red highlight followed by a leviathan purple wash. any black armor bits (right shoulder pad, hip plates) are black with a codex grey drybrush. the genestealer skull was done with hormagaunt purple with the plates/teeth astronomicon grey followed by a leviathan purple wash. the guard helmet is adeptus battlegrey with a codex grey highlight followed by a badab black wash.

stage 7. bases are painted scorched brown with a vomit brown drybrush. rocks are picked out with adeptus battlegrey and a codex grey drybrush. the rim is repainted scorched brown, and voila! guys are ready for static grass, transfers and weathering.

final thoughts: i like how they look. i dont know that using the silver spray is that much of a time saver compared to say basecoating with boltgun or chainmail, but whatever. it does go through a maddening amount of wash (badab, devlan, sepia) and it doesnt really work very well on marine vehicles at all with all the flat planes, so thats a negative. but for infantry i think it worked out rather well. all told, these 5 guys took probably 10 hours of painting at work which would probably be half that were i to do it at home with no distractions.
